Here're four brand new songs that I wrote in June and July 2010 and recorded in July. Written, performed, produced by Paul Iorio. Lyrics below. Enjoy! Paul

BAILEY
Music and lyrics by Paul Iorio
Copyright 2010
Bailey roams where he shouldn't go
Bailey has no choice
They put a rifle in his face
Said, "Your passport or your home/
And don't you say your home"
Bailey ran from a border guard
Hopped a train that was goin' (goin')
Hid atop a luggage rack
Hid there for a whole time zone
For a whole time zone
Bailey, why don't you come home?
Bailey, you come home
Bailey, why don't you come home
But don't you come alone
Bailey, why don't you come home?
Bailey, you come home
Bailey, why don't you come home
But don't you come alone
Mountains sprawl to infinity
Clouds way way down below
If you get stuck in peaks like that
You'll never find your home
You'll die lost and alone
If you roam where your money's strong
If you roam where you're known
Someone else won't tell your tale
You can tell it on your own
You'll live to tell it on your own
You'll live to tell it on your own
Bailey, why don't you come home?
Bailey, you come home
Bailey, why don't you come home
But don't you come alone
Bailey, why don't you come home?
Bailey, you come home
Bailey, why don't you come home
But don't you come alone
NOTES ON "BAILEY": This began with an aggressive Whoish guitar riff that I combined with a sort of wind-swept narrative. The bridge came to me during a walk in the Berkeley hills.

WE'RE GONNA WIN
Music and lyrics by Paul Iorio
Copyright 2010
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
You know there's celebration
And plenty of elation
You know it's not my style
To suppress my smile
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
You know there's jubilation
A grand slammin' nation
You know we're gonna win
You know we're gonna win
[top of the ninth/change is comin' fast]
We're winning massively
We're winning for all time
We're winning massively
We're winning for all time
We're gonna have a real good time
We're winning massively
We're winning for all time
It's a hole in one
A hundred percent fun
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
You know it's not my style
To practice self-denial
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
There's victory in the air
Triumph everywhere
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
There is no shred of doubt
I'm gonna knock you out
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
Get out the back seat
Get in the front
Get out the back seat
Get off the floor
You know we're gonna win for all time
Get out the back seat
Get off the floor
You know we're gonna win
You know we're conquerin'
Win win win win win win
[voice: "Hey, that ain't no jump shot/we won"
2nd voice: "Talk to the ref, man"]
NOTES ON "WE'RE GONNA WIN": Where rap meets rhythmic chants at sports events. It started with a rhythm and the title phrase, which I started humming while walking to a store one afternoon.

POWDER BLUE
Music and lyrics by Paul Iorio
Copyright 2010
I've got the powder blues
I'm feeling powder blue
I'm so powder blue
I've got the powder blues
I'm so in love with you
I might be navy blue
In a day or two
Might be Picasso blue
Might be Picasso blue
But now I'm only powder blue
I've got the powder blues
I'm feeling powder blue
I'm so powder blue
I've got the powder blues
I guess it's what I blew
Backstage at Silk Bamboo
A flight straight to the moons
Of Jupiter and Neptune
I've got the powder blues
I'm feeling powder blue
I'm so powder blue
I've got the powder blues
I've got the powder blues
I'm feeling powder blue
I'm so powder blue
I've got the powder blues
I've got the powder blues
I've got the powder blues
I've got the powder blues
NOTES ON "POWDER BLUE": This one, or at least its chorus, came streaming out of me in early July 2010 as I was idly watching TV, and I developed it from there. I wanted a brush-drum jazz-nightclub sort of ambience.

I'D WALK FIVE MILES FOR YOUR LOVE (BUT NEED A RIDE BACK)
Music and lyrics by Paul iorio
Copyright 2010
I'd walk five miles for your love
But need a ride back
I'd work 7 to 11 to buy you stuff
Oh you know I'd break my back
[That's 7 in the morning to 11 in the morning/let's not get carried away here]
It's time to seize the day
Or seize the per diem I'm being paid
'Cause I've used my gas allowance
And all my checking account balance
I'd climb the highest mountain
for your love
[Maybe on one of those funiculars]
I'd give you fifty million dollars
if i could have it all back
[And I wouldn't charge you much interest either]
i'd cross the widest river
On an yacht munching salmon slivers
I'd buy you a diamond ring
Made of cubic zirconia bling
I'd walk five miles for your love
But need a ride back
But need a ride back
But need a ride back
[Cubic zirconia!]
[Work 7 to 11!]
NOTES ON "I'D WALK FIVE MILES": I came up with this after hearing the Flight of the Conchords play at Bkly's Greek Theater in late May. Days later, I took a very early morning walk in Berkeley and saw a funny bumper sticker, "Carpe per Diem" -- and I laughed and continued to walk as a song started taking shape in my head, a tune poking fun at all those I'll-do-anything-for-your-love type songs.
